Case Study

Governments utilize asset tracking to combat international crime

In today’s ever changing world of technology, criminals are becoming increasingly more sophisticated. In order to keep pace government agencies need to use adaptive technology that works without limitations. When it comes to tracking and understanding the behavior of things no other software product comes close to the sheer customization and power of GSatTrack.

GSatTrack by Global Satellite Engineering

About GSatTrack

GSatTrack is a web-based, integrated satellite and GSM tracking solution, compatible with modern web browsers and works on a multilingual platform that brings together all the positions of every manufactured product under one location and displays and manages them in a single unified interface. With GSatTrack, asset locations and movements - including position, speed, altitude and heading - are tracked in real-time worldwide via GPS updates.

By using GPS satellites with the latest hardware and technology, any asset on earth, whether it's people, vehicles, containers, or any moving object can now be tracked. Our technology allows the integration of all types of tracking equipment into one easy to use platform. The tracking equipment determines its location by triangulating a position using GPS (Global Positioning System) and then transmits this information via GSM, Satellite, or VHF to a central server for processing. Any operator can view and control any number of real time assets simultaneously.

The Customer Situation

Global Satellite Engineering was approached by a government client and asked to provide a way of tracking agents as well as suspected persons and the items they were trafficking anywhere in the world. The agency also needed the system to be as nimble as the criminals they were trying to catch.

This meant being using technology that could be entirely customized. From implementing maps that were relevant, customizable reports that showed how persons were performing in the field and having a malleable solution that could change over time, these were all necessary requirements for the agency to stay ahead of the game.

Finally the agency required that the interface be easy to use and accessible over a vast array of devices. The governmental personnel were using a host of different technologies from cell phones, tablets, laptops and large scale computer systems. The solution needed to easily accommodate all these distinctive devices.

The Challenge

The agency needed a system capable of tracking new and existing units. This included devices built by the agency for certain missions and a host of devices already in use including cell phones, satellite phones and tracking devices. All of this had to be done in a feature rich setting that was easy to use and most of all secure. The solution that the agency had currently implemented was an older software option that limited which devices could be used and required major programming to make even the smallest of changes.

The Solution

GSatTrack was designed from the bottom up with two goals in mind. The first was to keep the solution open ended allowing any hardware, regardless of manufacturer or network, to be supported. This also meant using a solution that could be accessed anywhere an internet browser could be accessed. Secondly and most importantly was to make the functions and features of our tracking solution relevant to our client’s needs.

So many tracking platforms are built with a single device in mind or around the functions of a particular unit. While this usually makes for a fantastic solution for that particular device it significantly restrains the ability of the users to adapt. In today’s world of ever changing technology limits are never a good thing and GSatTrack overcomes this by allowing it’s users to add any tracking device in their arsenal and even develop their own technology. It was this same approach that allowed the government agency to bring all their tracking technology under a single unified software solution.

Even in the rare instances where a software tracking portal does support multiple devices, the software usually only offers minimal functionality and the designers will charge greatly for any functions outside of simple location information. In order for tracking software to be truly useful it needs to present the behavior of things not just where assets are located. It also needs to be presented in a way that is useful and meaningful. This means allowing users to configure every device over the air. It means allowing users the ability to add custom maps and layers themselves rather than waiting days or weeks and paying extra for this functionality. Interfaces and preferences need to support military and civilian usage and features like geofences need to be dynamic to support more than just notifications. When the government agency chose to use GSatTrack they empowered their agents with tools that were meaningful and allowed them to adapt to the missions making information gathered that much more meaningful.

The Result

After employing GSatTrack, the government agency saw immediate savings. The agency was able to purchase the most cost efficient hardware regardless of manufacturer or network while still allowing for the greatest chance of mission success. Utilizing GSatTrack also allowed the agency to implement their own technology for tracking as well as including much needed smaller trackers that could be used to track goods and persons as they were moving.

Choosing GSatTrack gave the government agency the freedom to customize their tracking solution to meet the needs of critical missions. Whether tracking agents in the field, monitoring the behavior of criminals or how goods were transported across a broad scope of terrain and instances;

Lastly GSatTrack allowed the agents the ability to access their tracking software on any device with a internet browser. This allowed operatives anywhere to easily administer their account even when in the field. This allowed agents to put tracking apps on their phone and be directed to targets and places of interest. GSatTrack continues to allow a robust solution that adapts just as quickly as the criminals the agency seeks to apprehend.
