About Iridium

Every 15 minutes, you can look up into the sky from anywhere on earth and if you have great eyesight or a telescope, chances are you will see a tiny moving dot in the sky - no it’s not a bird, not a plane, not Superman, but it could be an Iridium Satellite orbiting across the globe.

Iridium is a uniquely sophisticated global constellation of 66 cross-linked Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, creating the Iridium network that delivers high-quality voice and data connections providing access to critical lifeline communications over the planet’s entire surface, including across oceans, airways, and polar regions.

In early 2019, Iridium completed a $3 billion network upgrade called Iridium NEXT, completely replacing the first-generation Iridium constellation positioning Iridium more than ever to meet the growing demand for global communications.

Your Advantage

Iridium’s LEO network enables the use of smaller omni-directional antennas, resulting in a compelling advantage of devices with a compact, lightweight, and streamlined form factor and shorter network registration times. In addition, the flexible software-based design of the Iridium network serves as the technological backbone for the development of an impressive array of industry defining products and services for Iridium partners, such as Global Satellite Engineering (GSE), authorized to develop and manufacture Iridium Approved products to innovate solutions designed to help save lives, save time, or save money.

Iridium manufactures products that utilizes it’s bi-directrional SBD (Short Burst Data) satellite service that offers a simple and efficient satellite communications service for transmitting small portions of data between remote assets and a centralized host offering low-latency, truly global coverage and near real-time communications capabilities.

Contribution of Global Satellite Engineering (GSE) as an Iridium Value Added Partner

As a leading global satellite-based technology company, GSE has maintained a long-time partnership with excellent standards as an Iridium Value-Added Developer, Value-Added Manufacturer, and Value-Added Retailer. Iridium leverages the specialized knowledge of partners like GSE to deliver differentiated and optimal solutions by providing the cross mix of capabilities to end-users in a diverse set of industries and markets around the globe.

As a Value-Added Developer, GSE is authorized to develop and market new products based on Iridium equipment: Iridium technical data and specifications + Partner innovation and distribution. As a specialized satellite-based engineering firm, GSE receives inquiries from customers around the world tasked to solve unique challenges whereby off the shelf solutions are not available.

Gathering a commonality of specific challenges, GSE takes the initiative to bridge the gap between the concept and application and continuously develops products engineered to innovate solutions that enable clients access to the source of communications they require to properly solve their challenge.

How GSE Innovates SBD solutions around the Iridium Core 9523N transceiver

Iridium Core 9523 is Iridium’s smallest, lightest and most advanced voice and data satellite transceiver module ever, enabling simplified global voice and data connectivity through Iridium’s farthest reaching network. As a certified Iridium developer, GSE has taken the Iridium Core 9523N transceiver and has built a rock solid Linux core providing access to voice, data, SMS, SBD, and RUDICS over Ethernet, WiFi, USB, and POTS - operating as a multipurpose communications hub, Internet gateway, and intelligent GPS telematics device.

The MCG-101 is ideal for both stationary and mobile applications in both remote locations or for Disaster Response where voice, internet access, and tracking are critical. This device requires a SIM card and transmits data over the Iridium network via Iridium Short Burst Data service.

Note that GSE is a DoD EMSS Approved Partner and the MCG-101 accepts the DISA EMSS SIM Card.

The MCG-101 is a fully capable processing platform that can be easily configured for custom call routing, data applications, and special projects. Its intelligent PBX can run an entire office, and run custom scripts.

Using the MCG-101 as a standard platform minimizes development time for your own more complex projects. GSE works on an as needed basis to develop custom SDK support. Discover features, specifications and more on the MCG-101 online manual, or by scrolling through the MCG-101 case studies and blogs.

How GSE innovates SBD solutions around the Iridium 9602 transceiver

The Iridium 9602 transceiver, designed to be integrated into a wireless data application with other host system hardware and software, provides a complete satellite data solution for your application and also transmits data over the Iridium network via Iridium Short Burst Data® service. With the influx of the ever increasing need to incorporate satellite based connectivity for critical communications using the smallest possible form factor, GSE developed the GSatMicro Series.

The GSatMicro Series is a suite of intelligent, satellite enabled terminals that provide advantageous, global behavior monitoring and management of fixed and mobile assets. Whether managing people, vehicles, aircrafts, vessels or remote installations, the GSatMicro Series terminals provide satellite enabled solutions across multiple industries. It provides an encrypted, secure communications channel around the globe for transmitting and receiving data, and in many cases, survivable communications on demand whether on land, in the air, or at sea.
